Medicine and nature come together in one of the most significant events in a woman’s life: birth. Recent years have seen attempts to combine the medical and natural to improve the experience of the mother to be, yet, many Israeli women describe giving birth as a difficult and disempowering – and even traumatic – experience.

The project characterizes a beneficial birth experience based on positive values such as control, choice, and safety, which are essential in all types of births. These values have a huge impact on the woman’s experience, placing her at the center as a subject and senior partner in making decisions about her own birth.

The proposed solution illustrates how control and choice may be enhanced by optimizing the communication with the medical staff. Specifically, aids such as booklet and bracelets, can clarify the woman’s choices and enable the team to acknowledge and respond to her wishes.
